Frustration was felt by both teams, as hopes for the final begin to dwindle

Newcastle coach Carl Robinson was left to lament his side's habit of conceding goals early in halves as Melbourne Victory fought back to draw 1-1 at McDonald Jones Stadium on Saturday night.

The Jets were in control in the first half of the A-League contest and led 1-0, but Victory caught the Newcastle defence napping in the 49th minute to equalise. Young English defender Macaulay Gillesphey broke his A-League duck by leaping high over the Perth defence from a perfectly-placed Jamie O'Shea corner in the 85th minute at Redcliffe.

Western Sydney Wanderers put Adelaide United to shame in a seven goal thriller at the Bankwest Stadium.

Western Sydney captain Mitch Duke scored a double as they ended an A-League home drought with a 5-2 win in an extraordinary match at Bankwest Stadium on Friday.

The drama carried on from the final minutes of their most recent encounter, when Adelaide were awarded two late penalties, with Wanderers holding on to win 3-2, after George Blackwood missed the second of his spot kicks.

Wanderers opened the scoring, trailed 2-1 and then scored three goals to lead 4-2 at the end of a stunning first half which...
