Samuel Eto'o: Cameroon will be ready to stage 2019 African Nations Cup

Cameroon will be ready to stage the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) next year, Samuel Eto'o has told RFI.

Suggestions that Cameroon would not be ready for the tournament, expanded to 24 teams and scheduled in the summer for the first time, have plagued the build-up, with Confederation of African Football (CAF) president Ahmad Ahmad voicing doubts last year.

Cameroon's ability to host the biennial African football showpiece has been under increasing scrutiny since the Confederation of African football voted - at the CAF Symposium in Rabat in July 2017 - to extend the competition from 16 teams to 24.

Speaking at the Caf 40th Ordinary General Assembly in Casablanca on Friday, Ahmad confirmed that,...

Cameroon hosts the African Cup of Nations next year.

Cameroon has been given the go-ahead to continue preparations to host the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), easing fears that it will not be ready in time.

Last summer, Confederation of African Football (CAF) President Ahmad Ahmad challenged Cameroon to show it would complete preparations to stage the event, taking place from June 7 to July 7 next year.

But following an inspection tour of tournament facilities and infrastructure by CAF experts last month, a positive preliminary report was presented...
