Lacazette: I prefer to play with Auba as partner

Arsenal's Alexandre Lacazette said he prefers to play alongside Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang, rather than as a lone striker.

Unai Emery has started the two forwards together in 25 of Arsenal's 62 games this season, using the pair particularly sparingly in the early stages of the Europa League and in exactly half of their Premier League fixtures.

However, of the 50 goals scored between them in all competitions, 31 of them have come when both men have been on the pitch at the same time.

And Lacazette believes they bring the best out of each other.

- When is the Europa League final?
- Who qualifies for Europe from the Premier League
- When does the transfer window close?

"Of course," said Lacazette when asked if he wanted to play alongside Aubameyang. "The coach knows we want to play together but of course he has to make a choice and we have to respect them.

"Playing with Auba is always a pleasure for me. Auba is a really good striker and the defenders find it difficult to take care of him."

Arsenal certainly look like a better side with both men on the pitch, and it will be a surprise if Emery does not start the pair in Wednesday's Europa League final against Chelsea.

"We don't feel it [the team looking better with them both playing] because of us, we feel it because we are a good team," Lacazette said. "Even when I don't play like against Burnley [on the final day of the Premier League season], the team was good and we played well so I don't think it's just because of Auba and me. We have a good group and we just want to keep going and play well.

"Of course it is always better to play together, but when one plays and the other stays on the bench you just have to help the team when you can."

Lacazette's second season at Arsenal has been more productive than his first, and he hinted that was because Emery believes in him more than Arsene Wenger, the man who bought him, did.

"Yes because I have played more," he said, after being asked if he thought he had improved this season. "[I've had] more confidence from the coach, which is important for a player. For a player it is easier to play well."

Despite scoring 19 goals this season, Lacazette remains out of Didier Deschamps's thoughts for the France national team, having last played for Les Bleus in November 2017, missing last summer's World Cup.

"I would like to be in the French team but I have to respect the manager's decision," he said, and when asked what more he could do to win a place, he replied: "Maybe I need to score 30 or 40 goals, I don't know."
