Brisbane Roar interim coach Darren Davies unfazed by Marco Kurz link

Darren Davies
Brisbane Roar interim coach Darren Davies says he is focused only on the job at hand, not any other sort of job.

Another week, another coaching contender for the Brisbane Roar.

But Brisbane interim mentor Darren Davies is unfazed by speculation linking Adelaide United coach Marco Kurz to his A-League club, saying he is yet to decide whether to put his own hand up for the full-time gig.

Davies says there's been no shortage of rumours about who will officially replace John Aloisi since the former Socceroo sensationally resigned as Roar coach last month. While Davies admitted the latest report about Kurz added an interesting subplot to Brisbane's Saturday night away clash with Adelaide United, he hadn't changed his stance.

"For me I am just focused on doing the job I am employed to do," he said. "I keep on getting asked about it and it's the same answer -- I am there for the boys.

"I have yet to decide whether I want that [full-time job]. This last six weeks has really given me an appetite for being a manager at some point. Whether that is now or down the line I am not sure."

Davies seemed bemused by the number of names being thrown around for the Roar job, even a recent novelty article throwing out Jose Mourinho as a possibility.

"I keep on reading articles [with names] from Mourinho to Sven-Goran Eriksson. The names keep getting bandied about but I will just keep holding fort," he said.

"He [Kurz] is the latest one to be linked to it. The names will continue to be linked and I will continue to do the best I can for the club and the playing group."

Davies said his focus was on the Roar picking up where they left off fin their last-gasp 2-2 draw with Western Sydney Wanderers. Brisbane came back from 2-0 down in stoppage time to steal a point.

"It was very encouraging. It was tremendous spirit from the boys," Davies said.

"I have been asked many times about how their spirits are, and sometimes actions speak louder than words. That last five minutes showed to everybody that the group is together and we are not going to give up."
