Lassana Diarra to be paid €6m by FIFA, Belgian FA after winning court case

19-year-old Maxime Lopez won the Ligue 1 player of the month award for December and is being compared to Andres Iniesta.

A Belgian court has ruled FIFA and the Royal Belgian Football Association (KBVB) share the blame for Lassana Diarra's transfer to Charleroi falling through in 2015 and must now pay the midfielder €6 million.

The court in Charleroi ruled FIFA had infringed EU law concerning the freedom of movement by stating that any club that signed Diarra could be jointly liable with the Frenchman to pay the €10m fine he owes Lokomotiv Moscow.

Veteran Anderlecht defender Olivier Deschacht is facing a €100,000 fine for breaching Belgian football's betting laws for players, according to Het Nieuwsblad.

Deschacht was told in December he would not face court over claims bets on Anderlecht games were placed via an online account created in his name in 2008, but that the matter was being passed to Belgium's Betting Commission.

Anderlecht officials will meet with Anthony Vanden Borre next week after the Belgium international stunned the club by announcing his decision to retire from football.

U.S. national team goalkeeper Ethan Horvath has signed with Belgian champion Club Brugge, the club announced on Tuesday.

The 21-year-old Colorado native spent most of the past four years in Norway, where he helped lead Molde FK to the knockout stage of the Europa League last season.
