Back Silva to shine in Spain vs. Italy, England to thrash Malta
A look ahead to all the top weekend betting action -- and be sure to check back next week for our profit/loss total for the season so far.
The Home Banker
Old foes Spain and Italy renew their rivalry this weekend and La Roja will have revenge in mind against a side that knocked them out of last summer's European Championships.
The former World Cup winners both sit on 16 points in Group G and the winner of Saturday's clash would be heavy favourites to win the group and qualify for the 2018 World Cup automatically.
Diego Costa will be missing for Spain so all eyes will be on Marco Asensio, the Real Madrid star who has made a scintillating start to the season. The 21-year-old scored twice as Real Madrid drew 2-2 with Valencia last weekend and after starring for the Under-21s at last summer's European Championships, he will now be looking to show his worth for the senior side. Julen Lopetegui's men can be backed at just shy of even money and have the players to get the job done in the Spanish capital.
The Tasty Treble
Harry Kane has not doing the business for Tottenham of late but the England striker is bound to find his range sooner rather than later and looks a banker bet to score against lowly Malta on Friday. Back Kane in the "Score Anytime" market alongside Kyle Laffery, who will be confident of finding the net as his Northern Ireland side head to San Marino.
Lafferty has scored five times for Hearts this season and should get plenty of chances against a San Marino team who have already shipped an incredible 30 goals in just six Group C qualifiers to date. Throw in Scotland to beat Lithuania at 4/5 and you have a solid looking treble paying better than 3/1.
The Euro Wager
The odds compilers at bet365 could regret going as big as 17/2 on David Silva scoring first for Spain when they face Italy on Saturday. The Manchester City magician has been Spain's top scorer since the appointment of Lopetegui and rumours abound that he may be played as a False No.9 against the Italians this weekend.
The Wildcard Tip
Wales have been on a wretched run since their superb effort at Euro 2016 and drawing five out of their six Group D qualifiers has really damaged their Russia 2018 prospects. Austria have the same number of points as the Welsh and led by the excellent David Alaba they look live underdogs to win in Cardiff at 13/5.
The Bookie Basher
The bookies clearly do not fancy Malta's prospects against England on Friday so it could pay to have a speculative punt on England winning 6-1 at a huge 40/1 with bet365. Keeping clean sheets has been a problem for Malta in recent years but so far this year they have already scored against Slovakia as well as beating Ukraine away.
