Goals galore in Man City vs. Liverpool, Benzema on target for Real Madrid

Paul Mariner gives his take on all things Liverpool and Philippe Coutinho.

Bolivia obliged for this column in the week by beating Chile at juicy odds of 15/4 but it was an otherwise frustrating international break with several near misses. Happily, the Premier League returns this weekend and we have all the best betting angles covered.

Running total: -£36.99

The Home Banker

Given the attacking depth within each squad it's difficult to make a case for Manchester City vs. Liverpool not producing goals. You have to go back to February 2010 for the last time these two played out a 0-0 draw and Liverpool will go into this full of confidence after that 4-0 drubbing of Arsenal last time out.

The Reds under Jurgen Klopp tend to be at their best against the top teams and they have a fine recent record against Manchester City. Both teams to score has obliged in the last five matches between these two at the Etihad and with Phillipe Coutinho also potentially set to feature, another goalfest cannot be ruled out.

Selection: £5 on Over 2.5 goals and both teams to score at 4/5 with bet365.

The Tasty Treble

Swansea's signing of Renato Sanches is a considerable coup and the Portugal star, regarded as one of the most prodigious young talents in the game, can help 5/4 shots Swansea beat Newcastle.

Burnley are the same price to see off Crystal Palace, and this looks like another home win given how awful the Eagles have been this season. Frank de Boer is a boss under pressure after three straight defeats, and it remains to be seen whether he will persist with the 3-5-2 formation that has been an unmitigated disaster to this point.

Finally, Chelsea look a solid shout at 8/11 to win at Leicester, a team they beat 3-0 home and away last season.

Selection: £2 on the treble at 7.74/1 with bet365.

The Euro Wager

On another night Karim Benzema could have scored a hatful for Real Madrid as they toiled in drawing 2-2 with Valencia the other week, but the Frenchman looks a solid call to score first for Los Blancos as they host Levante at the Bernabeu.

Selection: £2 on Benzema to score first at 5/2 with bet365.

The Wildcard Tip

Arsenal are expected to cruise to victory against Bournemouth this weekend but after suffering consecutive Premier League defeats without scoring, would you honestly put your mortgage on them to beat the Cherries at 1/3? The 3-3 draw between these clubs in January was the first time Bournemouth had ever taken a top flight point off Arsenal, but Eddie Howe's men could be worth backing at 17/4 here to claim a precious Premier League point.

Selection: £1 on the draw at 17/4 with bet365.

The Bookie Basher

Tottenham are favourites to win at Everton on Saturday but it's worth remembering the Toffees have lost just one league match at home in 2017. Neither side have been overly impressive so far and given the fact that three out of the last four meetings between the teams at Goodison Park have ended in draws, it could pay to have a speculative punt on a 2-2 result on Merseyside.

Selection: £1 on a 2-2 draw at 14/1 with bet365.
