Wayne Rooney to mark England farewell at Wembley with a goal?

ESPN FC's Brian McBride has no problem with England's decision to add Wayne Rooney to the roster and feels the decision won't hinder younger players.

Our Banker bet landed again at the weekend courtesy of Manchester City's emphatic 3-1 victory over Manchester United, but we were a little unlucky with our other selections. Club football takes a back seat for a while now and there's a busy week of international action ahead, including Spain's UEFA Nations League trip to Croatia.

Running total: -£26.86

The Banker

Spain know a win in Zagreb against Croatia will see them confirmed as Group A4 winners in and, having beaten Zlatko Dalic's charges 6-0 in the reverse fixture, La Roja look a decent bet at even money for the win on Thursday. Croatia had a fantastic World Cup campaign but they have won only one of their last five games in all competitions. They seem to be suffering a hangover from their Russian adventure and have yet to even score in the Nations League, so could be set to struggle against a Spain side who've scored 12 goals in their last three matches.

Selection: £6 on Spain to win at evens with bet365.

The First Goal Flutter

There has been much debate regarding Wayne Rooney's return to the England squad for Thursday's friendly against the United States but, whether you agree with his farewell appearance or not, it's happening and England's record goal scorer is a 100/30 chance to score first. After all, he's been flying in MLS and has scored a record 53 goals for his country. Rooney, who scored his first international goal against Macedonia way back in 2003, is expected to appear as a second-half substitute at Wembley.

Selection: £1.50 on Wayne Rooney to score first at 100/30 with bet65.

The Tasty Treble

France are top of Group A1 and look worthy favourites at 13/10 to beat Netherlands on the road this Friday. When the teams met in September, France claimed a 2-1 victory and the world champions can underline their superiority by winning in Rotterdam. Elsewhere, the draw at 12/5 could be the bet when Greece meet Finland. The latter have won all four of their Nations League matches so far and have not conceded a goal in their last five games, but face a tricky test against Greece having already won their group. Add in Belgium to cover a one-goal handicap against Iceland at 8/13 for an international treble paying over 11/1.

Selection: £2 on the treble at 11.63/1 with bet365.

The Euro Wager

Paco Alcacer found the net for Borussia Dortmund again in their exciting 3-2 win over Bayern Munich in "Der Klassiker" at the weekend and is averaging a goal every 29.5 minutes this season. Look for him to continue his breathless goal-scoring form against Croatia where it could be worth backing 'Over 2.5 goals' to be scored in Zagreb.

Selection: £4 on Over 2.5 goals at 11/10 with bet365.

The Wildcard Tip

England can build on that fabulous 3-2 win away to Spain last month by seeing off a the U.S. at Wembley. The Americans drew 1-1 with Peru last time out and before that lost 4-2 at home to Colombia. They've not beaten the Three Lions since 1993 and, having failed to qualify for the last World Cup, travel to London as pretty solid underdogs. A 2-0 home win for an England side that could feature a few new faces can be punted at 5/1 with bet365 and that might be the way to bet.

Selection: £1 on England to win 2-0 at 5/1 with bet365.
