FIFA's Club World Cup, Global Nations League plans concern UEFA

FIFA president Gianni Infantino
FIFA president Gianni Infantino wants to change the Club World Cup and revamp international friendlies.

UEFA is concerned about the pace and process of FIFA pressing to accept a $25 billion, 12-year deal for two new competitions.

The organisation's Professional Football Strategy Council met on Wednesday and released a statement casting doubt on FIFA president Gianni Infantino's hopes of reaching an agreement on the expansion of the Club World Cup and the creation of a Global Nations League before the World Cup begins in Russia next month.

"The PFSC unanimously expressed serious reservations about the process surrounding the FIFA Club World Cup and Global Nations League proposals and, in particular, the hasty timing and lack of concrete information and underlined the need for a clearly defined procedure, which respect existing structures and decision-making bodies and which involves all key stakeholders," the statement reads.

"In particular, such proposals must be considered as part of a global reflection on the overall international match calendar and cannot be decided upon in isolation."

In March, Infantino said FIFA had 60 days to agree on a $25 billion guaranteed investment from an unnamed consortium. That deadline seemed to expire this week.
