Poem for Wayne Rooney resurfaces from Bristol City ace Josh Brownhill

Josh Brownhill is enjoying a thoroughly decent season with Bristol City having already made 30 appearances in a campaign that sees the Robins both flying high in the Championship and competing in the semifinals of the Carabao Cup.

However, an embarrassing episode from the 22-year-old midfielder's past might just serve to scupper his progress after being splashed all over the newspapers this week.

We are of course talking about the poem Brownhill wrote as an 11-year-old schoolboy, a loving ode to his boyhood idol, Wayne Rooney.

"My idol is Wayne Rooney, I think he is really dudey. People call him fatty, but I call him classy."

Brownhill's oblique rhyming scheme definitely works better if you factor a heavy Scouse accent into the mix.

Wonderful stuff.

Chris covers the funny side of the game for ESPN FC in the Toe Poke blog.
