A-League players fix broken net themselves. hilarity ensues
We have seen some crazy things in football this year and Saturday's A-League match between the Melbourne Victory and the Central Coast Mariners produced the latest bizarre moment.
In a match won 5-2 by Melbourne, the match was delayed for five or so minutes after the net at one end of the pitch unravelled after a shot into the side netting on 64 minutes. Nothing too out of the ordinary right?
Well, that's when things got really good as what happened next can only be described as a scene straight out of a comedy film. Thinking fast, players from the Victory grabbed tried and trusted repair tool duct tape and began to do the repairs themselves.
Due to the height of the nets and without ladders, players hoisted each other up to do the repairs, New Zealand international Kosta Barbarouses attempting his best "MacGyver" impression by duct taping the net to the post.
In the end, the duct tape got the job done and the match continued but not before some absolutely comical moments that we will never forget.
The Victory's repair job may not have been pretty but it was effective. Next time, though, maybe just call the repairman.
