Bayern Munich boss Jupp Heynckes mistaken for a supporter
He may be one of the most successful managers in the club's history, but it would appear that Bayern Munich coach Jupp Heynckes isn't entirely a household name across Germany.
With his team travelling to play Augsburg this weekend, Heynckes was making his way from the team hotel when he bumped into a couple of oblivious passers-by from America.
We'll let the man himself take up the anecdote from here.
A small anecdote from Jupp to end today's presser:— FC Bayern English (@FCBayernEN) 6 April 2018
"This morning I went into the lift and then old couple stepped in. I had an #FCBayern bag on me and the lady asked, quite happily. 'Oh, you're a fan of Bayern Munich?!'
I answered: 'Yes, sure!'" 😅 #MiaSanMia pic.twitter.com/53c83skrkq
Well, it's not like Heynckes fibbed to his new acquaintances -- he definitely qualifies as a Bayern fan having won three Bundesliga titles and a league/cup/Champions League treble during his several stints in charge.
Still, definite shades of Bastian Schweinsteiger being asked to take a photo of his Chicago Fire teammates at Toronto airport.
