Toe Poke Daily: Lukaku hits back at critics - 'Not bad for a fat boy'

Napoli striker Dries Mertens opens up about how he thinks fellow Belgian's Romelu Lukaku and Eden Hazard will fare at Inter and Real Madrid.

The Toe Poke Daily is here every day to bring you all the weirdest stories, quirkiest viral content and top trolling that the internet has to offer, all in one place.

Romelu Lukaku is not letting reports and accusations that he is out of shape get him down.

The Belgium striker, who is preparing to begin his first season in Serie A after joining Inter Milan from Manchester United this summer, had to contend with plenty of criticism during his disappointing second season at Old Trafford.

One of his most outspoken critics has been former United captain Gary Neville, who told ESPN FC earlier this month: "I think he is a really good player -- he'll score a lot of goals and do well at Inter Milan.

"But the idea of a player being overweight for me is unforgivable. You can play badly, miss shots on goal, hit a bad cross or give goals away as they're mistakes in football, but you can't be overweight.

"We were never overweight, not fit or not prepared. How can you be overweight?"

On top of that, a story in Italian sport daily Corriere dello Sport on Saturday claimed that the 26-year-old could even miss Inter's first match of the campaign, against Lecce on Aug.26, because club medical staff want him to lose at least 4kg to get down below 100kg (220 pounds).

Later on Saturday, Lukaku hit back on Instagram.

James Milner shows stitches on nasty eye gash

Liverpool made hard work of Saturday's trip to Southampton, but managed to come away from St Mary's with a 2-1 victory.

While goalkeeper Adrian's pride took a bruising when his inexplicable gaffe cost his team a clean sheet, James Milner will have some physical scarring with which to remember the match.

The look is becoming a trademark for him.

Bees in the bonnet in Brazil

You've got to see this one to bee-lieve it. No seriously. A Saturday match between Fortaleza and Inter in Brazil's top flight was delayed nearly 20 minutes by a fiesty swarm of bees.

Groundskeepers were called into action to try to get rid of the bees and used a variety of methods to disperse the little buzzers, with firefighters trying in vain to spray them off the corner flag they'd adopted as a hive with water.

Eventually the sting was taken out of the situation and fans and players returned and the game was allowed to start, with Inter knocking off hosts Fortaleza 1-0.
