Transfer Rater: Memphis Depay to Manchester United, James Milner to Leeds

Things change in the blink of an eye in football. The Football Whispers Index takes the latest transfer rumours and gives them a score out of five; the higher the score, the more realistic and reliable the Whisper.

Here are today's top five emerging whispers. And keep an eye on Transfer Talk for all the latest gossip.

Frenkie De Jong to Manchester United

The Dutch youngster is one of the most sought after players in Europe at the moment, and Manchester United are the latest club to throw their hat into the ring for his signature. The 21-year-old has been strongly linked with Barcelona in recent months but Premier League sides, including Manchester City, Tottenham and United, have also shown interest. According to the Sun, the Old Trafford club are hoping that their good relationship with Ajax CEO Edwin van der Sar could work in their favour.

Memphis Depay to Manchester United

Depay's Lyon side were victorious in their Champions League opener against Manchester City this week, and the Dutchman's performance has led to speculation that Manchester United could activate the buy-back clause they included in the deal which saw him leave for France. Jose Mourinho was asked about the Netherlands international this week and he said: "He didn't succeed in his 18 months but he's very young so I think it's important for the club to complete control of this talent. We all wish he plays very, very well at Lyon, and why not to come back? Because everyone here likes him."

Milan Skriniar to Manchester United

Contract talks are continuing between Skriniar and his club AC Milan, as the Slovakian seeks improved terms despite his deal not expiring until 2022. Manchester United are monitoring the situation, and could look to make their move should the player refuse to sign a new deal in Italy. Calciomercato report that Mourinho is a big fan of the defender, and could make an offer even if the 23-year-old signs a new deal.

Joe Rodon to Manchester City

The 20-year-old Welshman has been fast-tracked to the Swansea first team under new manager Graham Potter, following the sales of Federico Fernandez and Jordi Amat at the end of the summer transfer window. The increased game time for the centre-back has alerted a number of clubs, and he remains on Manchester City's radar. Wales Online report that Swansea will open contract talks as they look to convince the player that regular first team football with them will be better for his long-term development.

James Milner to Leeds

The Liverpool midfielder's contract expires at the end of season, which opens up a number of doors for the player as he reaches the final years of his career. The Daily Mail are reporting that a return to Leeds could be an option if his contract is allowed to run down, especially if they're promoted to the Premier League. Milner turns 33 at the beginning of next year and is one of Liverpool's highest earners, though if he maintains his form he could secure an extension to his deal.
