Chile's Copa Libertadores controversy an example of fixture chaos

Steve Nicol thinks domestic leagues finishing out their seasons is the only fair way to decide titles.

With so many football championships around the globe now halted indefinitely because of the outbreak of the coronavirus, there is a question left hanging: What to do with the rest of the season?

Given that the pause may last for several months, it is not clear how all the remaining fixtures could be accommodated -- which is what happened to last year's Chilean Championship.

Player hit with firework in Chilean derby, match abandoned

Supporter unrest caused the abandonment of the derby match between Colo Colo and Universidad Catolica on Sunday after a player was hit by a firework.

Fans threw fireworks and missiles onto the pitch, and Colo Colo striker Nicholas Blandi went down clutching his ears after one explosive device exploded at his feet.

Video showed a clearly disorientated Blandi limping off the field and receiving treatment and the referee removed the players and abandoned the match moments later.

As part of O'Higgins' sponsorship deal with McDonald's, the numbers on the back have been designed to look like french fries dipped in ketchup.

Corporate shill, and almost entirely illegible from a distance of more than a few feet away? The perfect combination.

Footballer celebrates goal by proposing to girlfriend, gets booked

We've certainly seen some lavish goal celebrations over the years, right from the donning of smuggled superhero masks through to elaborate ensemble dance routines.

However, Antofagasta midfielder Eduard Bello upped the ante after finding the net during his side's Chilean league match against Everton on Sunday afternoon.

Bello took just two minutes to open the scoring for the away side and celebrated by running up into the stands, getting down on one knee and proposing to his girlfriend, beach volleyball...
