Aberdeen booked an 8,000-mile round-trip to face Kazakhstan's Kairat Almaty in the Europa League Third Qualifying Round, but they had to work hard to do it despite a healthy lead from the first leg of their tie against HNK Rijeka.

All the goals in what turned out to be an entertaining 2-2 draw -- giving Aberdeen a 5-2 aggregate win -- came after the interval at Pittodrie, with Niall McGinn and Jonny Hayes netting the goals that saw the Dons through after the visitors had gone 2-0 up thanks to Marin...

Aberdeen gave themselves a massive Europa League qualifying boost with a stunning 3-0 second round first-leg win over Rijeka at the Stadion Kantrida.

Defender Andrew Considine headed the visitors in front against the run of play in the 38th minute from a Niall McGinn corner.

There was more joy soon after the break when midfielder Peter Pawlett, denied a goal for offside just before the break, headed in a Shay Logan cross.

Substitute Kenny McLean increased the lead further in the 75th minute with a close-range...

Niall McGinn's glee lasted only five minutes in Macedonia.

Aberdeen escaped Macedonia with a draw in their Europa League first qualifying round match against Shkendija 79 on Thursday.

Niall McGinn opened the scoring for the Scottish side in the 79th minute, but Shkendija equalised just five minutes later to secure the home side the result as the tie heads back to Pittodrie Stadium.

McGinn's goal was a straightforward one, the No. 10 sweeping in an accurate, bouncing cross from the right off the foot of Shaleum Logan.

However Hristijan Kirovski's perfectly-placed,...

Liverpool goalkeeper Danny Ward joins Aberdeen on loan

Aberdeen have signed Liverpool goalkeeper Danny Ward on a season-long loan deal.

The 22-year-old Wales squad player trained with his new teammates on Friday and will compete with last season's number one, Scott Brown, and long-serving Jamie Langfield for the goalkeeper's jersey.

The former Wrexham player joined Liverpool in 2012 and signed a long-term contract earlier this week after spending time on loan at Sky Bet League Two side Morecambe last season.

Dons boss Derek McInnes told the club's official...
