Celta Vigo fires ex-Monterrey, Club America boss Antonio Mohamed

Celta Vigo sacked coach Antonio Mohamed on Monday and replaced him with Portuguese Miguel Cardoso after a poor start to the season that has left them 14th in La Liga.

The Galician club have three wins from 12 matches and lost 4-2 at home to European champions Real Madrid on Sunday under Argentine Mohamed who replaced Juan Carlos Unzue in May.

Mohamed managed several prominent clubs in Mexico before going to Celta. He won league titles with Club America and Tijuana, as well as a cup title with Monterrey.

Mexico watchdog agency launches probe into Liga MX club player transfer practices

The last high-profile contract dispute in Liga MX surrounded Chivas defender Oswaldo Alanis.

Mexico's government watchdog agency has opened a probe into the transfer practices of Liga MX clubs to determine whether they violate Mexico's federal law on competitive practices in "setting, elevating or manipulating the purchase or selling price of goods or services."

Costa Rica hires ex-America, Leon boss Gustavo Matosas

Costa Rica has hired former Club America and Leon coach Gustavo Matosas as the squad's new manager, the country's federation announced on Tuesday.

The ex-Uruguay international takes over for Oscar Ramirez, whose contract was not renewed following Costa Rica's exit from the World Cup in Russia.

Matosas, 51, won two Liga MX titles with Leon and guided America to a 2014-2015 CONCACAF Champions League title. He has also coached clubs in Uruguay, Peru, Saudi Arabia, Paraguay, and Argentina.

Javier Hernandez and Carlos Vela are two of the notable absentees as Mexico announced a youthful squad -- featuring young star Hirving Lozano -- for upcoming friendlies against Uruguay (Sept. 7 in Houston) and the United States (Sept. 11).
