Vivianne Miedema scored six goals and created four more in a stunning solo display of attacking football as champions Arsenal cruised to the biggest-ever win in the history of the FA Women's Super League by thrashing Bristol City 11-1 on Sunday.

An unstoppable Beth Mead goal helped champions Arsenal to a narrow 2-1 win over West Ham in their FA Women's Super League opener on Sunday, while Beth England's early rocket proved enough for Chelsea as they beat newcomers Tottenham Hotspur 1-0.

Although last year's top scorer Vivianne Miedema missed the game with a tight hamstring, Mead's thunderous shot put Arsenal ahead in the 14th minute, and she then teed up debutant Jill Roord to make it 2-0 just before halftime.

England's Jordan Nobbs set to miss Women's World Cup after ACL tear

LONDON -- England could be without one of its key players for the Women's World Cup next year after playmaker Jordan Nobbs ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament in her left knee.

Nobbs, England's player of the year in 2016, was injured while playing for Arsenal against Everton in the Women's Super League on Sunday.

"Everyone at the club wishes Jordan a speedy recovery and will give their full support in her journey back to full fitness," an Arsenal statement read.
