Aston Villa's Fabian Delph says he never would have left on free transfer

Aston Villa midfielder Fabian Delph was pleased to extend his contract with Villa.

Fabian Delph has revealed he would never have left Aston Villa on a free transfer and values loyalty over money.

The midfielder has signed a new four-and-a-half year deal at the club and insisted he always saw his future at Villa.

Delph suffered a cruciate knee ligament injury in 2010 but has since become an England international, making his debut against Norway last year.

And he insisted he wanted to pay back both the club and chairman Randy Lerner for their support and would not have been tempted...

Fabian Delph's new Villa deal one of their best wins of the season

Fabian Delph has pledged his future to Aston Villa until 2019 by signing a new deal at the club.

There were two victories for Villa on Sunday. On the field, Carles Gil's stunning strike -- one of the finest goals seen at Villa Park for many seasons -- helped the side past Bournemouth, and before that, news of Fabian Delph's contract extension was universally celebrated.

As a club, Villa haven't played the PR game well enough of late, but the club managed the Delph deal superbly. Before kickoff it was revealed that "exciting player news" would be relayed via the screens in the stadium at 2.50pm....

Everton and Aston Villa are considering a move for Porto defender Rolando before the end of the transfer window, sources have told ESPN FC.

Both clubs are looking to bolster their defensive options and are interested in bringing 29-year-old Rolando, out of contract in the summer, to the Premier League.
