Atletico Tucuman sees VAR put them on back foot against Gremio in Copa Libertadores

There are two outsiders in the quarterfinals of South America's Copa Libertadores. Chile's Colo Colo are the only team left from outside Brazil and Argentina. And of the eight remaining teams, Atletico Tucuman are the only one which has never lifted the trophy.

And, barring a remarkable turnaround, the club from the north of Argentina will have to wait at least another year. The first club from the region to take part in the competition, they made their debut only last year and have exceeded expectations...

Argentina's Copa Libertadores teams ready to make their move

Hernan Grana
River Plate remain one of Argentina's strongest contenders in this year's Copa Libertadores.

Europe's Champions League is not the only continental club competition that kicks up a gear this week. The South American equivalent, the Copa Libertadores, is also back, resuming after a three-week layoff.

Atletico Tucuman score Copa Libertadores upset using borrowed kits

Fernando Zampedri scored as Atletico Tucuman used kits borrowed from the Argentina U20 side after they arrived at their Copa Libertadores match without their luggage.

Atletico Tucuman on Tuesday beat El Nacional of Ecuador, 1-0, in the return leg of the second round of Copa Libertadores on Tuesday despite being more than an hour-and-a-half late for the kickoff in Quito and wearing kits and boots borrowed from the Argentina under-20 team.

The Argentina side saw their flight delayed nearly three hours in Guayaquil because their chartered flight to Quito did not have clearance to fly with passengers.

After they boarded yet a second plane and the flight finally landed...

Atletico Tucuman's tumultuous Copa Libertadores journey

Atletico Tucuman
Atletico Tucuman are through to the next stage of the Copa Libertadores. But why are they wearing Argentina jerseys?

After waiting 115 years, Atletico Tucuman were late for the biggest game in the club's history.

From the northern provinces of Argentina, Tucuman are making their debut in the Copa Libertadores. A week ago, in front of their own fans in the first leg of the qualifying round, they drew 2-2 with El Nacional of Ecuador.

It was a disappointing result, putting a lot of pressure on the return game in Quito, 2,800 metres above sea level. The altitude is usually a problem for non-acclimated visitors, and...
