Sundowns and Pirates draw as Bloem Celtic stun Bidvest Wits

Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates played to a goalless draw in their crunch Absa Premiership clash at Loftus Stadium on Saturday, while 10-man Bidvest Wits lost 2-1 at home after a late rally from Bloemfontein Celtic.

Pirates extended their lead at the top of the table to three points ahead of Wits, though they have played two games more.

Perhaps the big talking point in their clash with Sundowns was a skirmish between the two dugouts late in the first half as a home fan appeared to make his...

Kaizer Chiefs fans allowed at Moses Mabhida Stadium for Telkom Knockout quarterfinal

The Premier Soccer League (PSL) have announced the fixtures for the quarterfinals of the Telkom Knockout this weekend but may have scored an own-goal with their choice of venue for Sunday's clash between Kaizer Chiefs and SuperSport United.

The match will take place at the Moses Mabhida Stadium and should be the second fixture to be played behind closed doors by Chiefs as part of a punishment handed down by the PSL for fan misbehaviour in the Nedbank Cup semifinals last season.

Cape Town City win as Sundowns keep within sight of PSL leaders

There were important wins on Saturday for Mamelodi Sundowns, Cape Town City and this season's surprise package Polokwane City as a breakaway group of likely title challengers emerges at the top of the Absa Premiership table.

That will seemingly not include Kaizer Chiefs, who suffered another demoralising defeat, this time at the hands of their great rivals Orlando Pirates in the Soweto Derby.

Pirates move to within one point of league leaders Bidvest Wits, though they have played a game...

Gavin Hunt adapting to new methods to revitalise Bidvest Wits

Gavin Hunt is constantly re-inventing himself to keep fresh in a game where he says he cannot afford to stick to his old ways but must learn to adapt to modern ways.

His mea culpa came this week when he spoke to reporters and was asked whether he had changed in any way after a horror last season for Bidvest Wits almost saw them relegated, just 12 months after being crowned champions in 2016.

The 54-year-old Hunt, who has won a record-equaling four league titles in his coaching career, can be taciturn,...

The Absa Premiership table that does lie: Points per game log

The 2018-19 Absa Premiership season is shaping up to be an intriguing tussle for a trophy seemingly 'no-one wants' as none of the 16 teams in the elite league have managed to find any consistency to pull ahead in the title race.

The South African championship has almost exclusively been fought out between a handful of clubs in recent years, but this campaign any number could emerge from the pack with a good run of fixtures.

Just five points separate leaders Bidvest Wits in top spot and Free...
