Dortmund's Dembele so far living up to the lofty comparisons

Ousmane Dembele may only be 19 years of age, but he is already one of the top players in the Bundesliga.

Comparisons to elite players are more often than not harmful rather than helpful for young players. Too often has the "next Ibrahimovic," "next Messi" or "next Ronaldo" stagnated somewhere along the line to end up as a rather ordinary footballer somewhere in Europe.

Marko Marin, once described as the "German Messi" when the then-23-year-old moved from Werder Bremen to Chelsea in 2012, is a daunting example of why those labels should be handed out with extreme care. In 2017, the now 27-year-old...

Cologne hope Neven Subotic will opt for permanent move from Dortmund

Neven Subotic is under contract at Dortmund until 2018.

Cologne hope Neven Subotic will sign a permanent contract once his loan from Borussia Dortmund expires at the end of the season, but fear he could be tempted to move to the Premier League.

Subotic, 28, joined Cologne on a six-month deal in January after enduring a difficult 2016 in which injuries and illness limited his playing time and saw a proposed move to Middlesbrough fall through.

The Serb made his Cologne debut a fortnight ago, and sporting director Jorg Schmadtke is already looking ahead...

Christian Pulisic's father leaves Dortmund, joins Rochester Rhinos staff

Herculez Gomez joins Mark Donaldson to break down the latest from around the world for Yanks Abroad.
Craig Burley believes Christian Pulisic's commitment to Dortmund makes complete sense for the 18-year old and the club.

Mark Pulisic, the father of United States international Christian Pulisic, is returning to the U.S. to become an assistant coach with the Rochester Rhinos, the USL club announced on Thursday.

Pulisic had been working for his son's club, Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund, ever since Christian made the move overseas in late 2014. But with his son now firmly established at Dortmund, Mark has returned stateside.

The elder Pulisic's decision was made easier by the fact that he and Rhinos manager Bob Lilley...

Borussia Dortmund yet to make Roman Weidenfeller contract decision

Roman Weidenfeller has been at Dortmund since 2002.

Borussia Dortmund have yet to decide whether they will offer veteran goalkeeper Roman Weidenfeller a new contract, sporting director Michael Zorc has told kicker.

Weidenfeller, who joined from Kaiserslautern in 2002, is Dortmund's longest-serving player and has made 450 competitive appearances for the club.

The 36-year-old is in the final few months of his current deal but talks, which were scheduled to take place over the winter break, have yet to be held.

Zorc said: "We will sit down in the foreseeable...
