Serie A club Cagliari said their first team would resume training on Monday, despite the coronavirus pandemic, and that players would be divided into small groups to respect social distancing guidelines.

Italy has emerged as the worst-hit country outside China with 35,713 confirmed cases and 2,978 deaths as of Wednesday. Serie A was the first of the big five European national leagues to be suspended.

Gennaro Gattuso was looking for a reaction from his side after they fell to a shock 3-2 defeat at home by Lecce last weekend, and Mertens' curling shot on the 65th minute was enough to edge them to victory.

The Belgian's goal was a rare moment of quality in a keenly contested encounter, and moved him to within one goal of Marek Hamsik's club...
