Northampton remain winless after they fell to a 4-1 League One defeat to promotion-chasing Charlton at The Valley.

Heading into the game without a goal this season, the visitors' task got even tougher when they conceded a Josh Magennis header from a Ricky Holmes cross with just two minutes played.

Justin Edinburgh's men responded well, seeing shots from Marc Richards and Billy Waters saved by Ben Amos.

Charlton could have extended their lead after 32 minutes when Tariqe Fosu was found by Magennis but...

Jake Jervis bagged a second-half brace as promoted Plymouth overcame Charlton 2-0 at Home Park to claim the first points of their League One campaign.

Argyle were beaten by Peterborough in their season opener last week but Jervis' double ensured they bounced back in style.

It was the Addicks who had the first chance as skipper Chris Solly's thumping long range drive was saved by Pilgrims goalkeeper Luke McCormick after 21 minutes.

McCormick immediately bettered that stop with a brilliant reaction save...

Karl Robinson's selection gamble paid off as Charlton came from behind late on to beat Exeter 2-1 in the Carabao Cup.

The Addicks boss made 11 changes from the side which opened their League One campaign with a 1-0 win over Bristol Rovers.

And it looked like Robinson was going to be left red-faced when Lee Holmes' 54th-minute free-kick evaded a clutch of players and nestled in the far corner.

But Charlton staged a stirring fightback to seal their place in the second round.

Billy Clarke came off the bench...

Charlton saw off already-relegated Swindon with a comfortable 3-0 win at The Valley.

The last game of the season saw the visitors start the stronger with Anton Rodgers hitting the bar from a free-kick.

But it was Charlton who took the lead on 15 minutes when Chelsea loanee Jay Dasilva's cross was headed home by striker Josh Magennis.

In a game which saw flares and balloons launched in more protests against Charlton's owner Roland Duchatelet, Nathan Byrne and Magennis came close to doubling the hosts'...

Chesterfield set an unwanted club record when they were beaten 2-1 at home by Charlton.

The already-relegated club slumped to a 26th Sky Bet League One defeat of the season through goals from Jake Forster-Caskey and Ricky Holmes.

Reece Mitchell replied in stoppage time for bottom-placed Chesterfield before Forster-Caskey had a penalty saved.

Chesterfield needed a fine save by Thorsten Stuckmann in the 16th minute to keep out a Holmes free-kick from just outside the box.

Joe Rowley almost gave Chesterfield...
