Fernando Clavijo, National Soccer Hall of Fame member, dies at 63

National Soccer Hall of Fame member Fernando Clavijo, who was part of the U.S. squad at the 1994 World Cup, died Friday at age 63.

Clavijo died at his home in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and had battled multiple myeloma, a form of blood cancer, for five years.

Tim Howard has announced that he will retire from professional soccer at the end of the 2019 MLS season.

The Colorado Rapids goalkeeper made the announcement via his Twitter account.

Howard, 39, will go down in U.S. soccer history as one of the country's all-time greats, a considerable feat given the regularity with which the country has produced top-class goalkeepers.

Frankie Amaya is the youngest player in this year's draft.

Expansion side FC Cincinnati selected UCLA midfielder Frankie Amaya No. 1 overall in the 2019 MLS SuperDraft on Friday.

"This is what I worked my whole life for," Amaya told MLSSoccer.com at the draft in Chicago. "This is a crazy moment."

Amaya, 18, is the youngest player in the draft, but his upside is such that he's expected to adapt well to the professional game, even in a central playmaking role that is usually the domain of foreign players.
