Russian giants Dinamo Moscow on brink of historic relegation

Dinamo Moscow fans
Dinamo Moscow's rich history has never seen them relegated from Russia's top division.

Spare a thought for Vitali Dyakov. The promising centre-back, who used to be on the fringes of Russia's national team, scored a hat trick for FC Rostov a year ago in the relegation playoffs against second division Tosno and kept his club alive. However, Rostov's desperate financial situation saw them clear favourites to go down the following season, and Dyakov was delighted to get an offer from Dinamo Moscow -- traditionally one of the top teams in the league.

Fast-forward to May 2016, and the situation...

Arsenal loan bid for Aleksandr Kokorin turned down - Dinamo Moscow boss

Arsenal had a loan move for Aleksandr Kokorin rejected in the summer, Dinamo Moscow coach Andrey Kobelev has revealed, while the forward's agent suggested he was not "desperate" to go to the Emirates Stadium.

Kokorin, 24, was a target for the Gunners, according to Kobelev, only for the Premier League club to have an offer knocked back by Dinamo during the transfer window.

Kobelev claims he had a say in rejecting the loan bid, but hinted that Arsenal may have been more successful had they attempted...

Socceroo Luke Wilkshire's career in limbo after abrupt Feyenoord exit

Wilkshire, front row on the left before a pre-season game in Austria in July, denies reports that he was sacked by Feyenoord.

He has more international caps than Harry Kewell and Mark Viduka, and three years ago was officially listed as Australia's highest paid footballer. Yet, the career of ex-Dynamo Moscow fullback Luke Wilkshire hangs in a frustrating limbo after parting ways with Dutch club Feyenoord last month.

Wilkshire, whose 80 Socceroo appearances since 2004 include two World Cups, is training by himself near Moscow in the hope that his agent can find him a club. He says he'd prefer a return to the Russian...

Dinamo Moscow hit with transfer embargo over unpaid fees

Dinamo Moscow are still in debt from Christopher Samba's signing.

The Russian Football Union has hit Dinamo Moscow with a transfer embargo over unpaid fees.

The RFU ruled on Thursday that Dinamo will not be allowed to register any new players until they clear debts related to four signings, including former Queens Park Rangers defender Christopher Samba and Russia midfielder Igor Denisov.

Dinamo have struggled off the pitch this year, with UEFA barring the club from the Europa League this season for overspending and breaking financial fair-play rules.
