Adama Diomande brace against Exeter puts Hull City into EFL Cup third round

Adama Diomande celebrates after scoring at Exeter
Adama Diomande's brace gave Hull City a 3-1 win over Exeter in the EFL Cup on Tuesday.

Hull's first-team coach Stephen Clemence was full of praise for Adama Diomande after he fired the Premier League team to an EFL Cup second-round 3-1 win at League Two Exeter.

The Grecians, conquerors of Brentford in round one, threatened an upset when Jake Taylor put them in front with a stunning 25-yard strike, but their joy was short lived as Diomande equalised within 60 seconds.

He added a second slightly against the run of play after 77 minutes before Robert Snodgrass killed the game off by...

Hull continued their fine start to the season, but only after they were given a scare by Sky Bet League Two Exeter.

Jake Taylor gave Exeter the lead with a stunning long-range strike, but joint Premier League leaders Hull hit back to win 3-1 with two goals from Adama Diomande and a Robert Snodgrass strike.

After a relatively even first 15 minutes, Hull came within a whisker of taking the lead when the dangerous Diomande cut in from the left wing and curled a shot against the face of the crossbar.

Mike Phelan: Minimal lineup changes coming for Hull City in cup tie

Anthony Richardson recaps an epic weekend in the Premier League, where Hull City and Mike Phelan are in the spotlight.

Caretaker boss Mike Phelan plans to keep Hull's momentum going in the EFL Cup at Exeter by keeping changes to a minimum.

Phelan accepts he has little room for manoeuvre in Devon with only the return of Harry Maguire possibly adding to the 13 senior players he had available for Saturday's 2-0 win at Swansea.

But Phelan says he does not want to upset the rhythm that the Tigers have established by winning their opening two Premier League games since promotion.

"Everybody's going to Exeter," said Phelan....

Exeter progressed to the second round of the EFL Trophy with a 1-0 win over Sky Bet Championship Brentford on a night when Ethan Ampadu created history by becoming the club's youngest player.

Ampadu - aged 15 years, 10 months and 26 days and son of former West Brom, Swansea and Exeter midfielder Kwame Ampadu - beat the record set by the great Cliff Bastin, who was 16 years and one month when he made his Grecians debut back in 1928.

All of the country's top clubs are watching Ampadu, who starts his...

A double from top goalscorer Jack Marriott helped Luton finish the season on a high as they hammered Exeter 4-1 at Kenilworth Road.

The Hatters raced into a three-goal lead before half-time and held on to leapfrog the visitors and end the season in 11th place.

Luton went close early on when Cameron McGeehan was denied, while Marriott shot straight at goalkeeper James Hamon, but the hosts were indebted to a fine goal-line clearance by Glen Rea after Jayden Stockley took advantage of Elliot Justham's...
