JJ Hooper's second-half hat-trick handed Grimsby a 3-0 victory at Forest Green on the final day of the League Two season.

Hooper broke the deadlock on 51 minutes when he stretched to toe-end the ball over the line.

He grabbed his second on 83 minutes with a sumptuous angled strike and six minutes later completed his smash and grab with a howitzer from 25 yards.

With both sides safe from any lingering relegation fears, the game was played out in a pedestrian fashion.

Mitch Rose's penalty provided a massive boost in Grimsby's efforts to beat the drop and all but ended Swindon's play-off hopes after they were beaten 1-0 at the County Ground.

The 23-year-old struck in from the spot to score for the third game in a row - and his eighth of the season - to keep the visitors five points ahead of the relegation zone.

Swindon's Paul Mullin found the back of the net in the 30th minute but he had his effort disallowed after punching the ball in with his hand.

Grimsby Town's first win in 21 games saw them take a huge step towards securing their League Two place for next season with a vital 1-0 victory over Chesterfield.

The Mariners' first success of 2018 - and since Michael Jolley took over the reins - leaves them seven points clear of their opponents, who remain bottom of the table.

Mitch Rose kept his cool, under the most intense pressure, to score a decisive penalty two minutes from time.

Given the magnitude of the game, it was a cagey opening 45 minutes...

Scott Kashket scored his first goal of an injury-hit season as Wycombe came from behind to defeat Grimsby 2-1 and take another big step towards promotion.

The Chairboys are now five points clear of fourth-placed Exeter in Sky Bet League Two, while the relegation-threatened Mariners' nightmare end to the campaign continues as their run without a win stretched to 20 games.

Grimsby went ahead after 15 minutes when Michael Harriman was unable to cut out Nathan Clarke's searching pass, allowing Martyn Woolford...

Grimsby were unable to end their winless run in Sky Bet League Two as they were held to a goalless draw at home to Stevenage.

Gary McSheffrey went closest for the hosts as he had an effort cleared off the line, while Chris Whelpdale saw a header come back off the post for the visitors.

Mallik Wilks spurned a glorious opportunity to give Grimsby the lead when he received the ball from JJ Hooper in the box, with Jack King doing just enough to put the on-loan Leeds forward off.

Siriki Dembele then forced...
