Mexico defender Carlos Salcedo joins Eintracht Frankfurt on initial loan deal

Carlos Salcedo will made his debut in the Bundesliga starting next season.

Mexico defender Carlos Salcedo has completed a move to Bundesliga club Eintracht Frankfurt on an initial loan with an option to buy.

The German side announced the move for the 23-year-old on Tuesday, in between his appearances for Mexico in Sunday's World Cup qualifier and the Confederations Cup in Russia.

Salcedo joined Chivas Guadalajara in January 2015 and spent a year and a half with the Mexican giants before playing last year on loan with Fiorentina in Italy.

MEXICO CITY -- Liga MX defending champions Chivas have had nine of their players named to Mexico's 40-man preliminary Gold Cup squad, and a 10th Chivas contribution can be considered if Alejandro Mayorga is included in the mix.

Mayorga played this past season with Chivas' Second Division side, Chivas Premier; he's the only player on the list that has never played in the First Division, but is considered part of the club.

Rangers are nearing completion of a deal to bring Carlos Pena to Scotland.

A deal to take Mexico and Chivas attacking midfielder Carlos Pena to Scottish giant Rangers has been agreed, a source with knowledge of the situation confirmed to ESPN Mexico's Ivan Canada.

The 27-year-old is scheduled to travel to Glasgow for a medical and will then return to Mexico while he waits for a work visa, which isn't expected to be a problem. The move is set to be a permanent transfer from current Liga MX champions Chivas.

GUADALAJARA, Mexico -- Chivas owner Jorge Vergara was obviously delighted to see his team win the 2017 Clausura title against Tigres on Sunday. He also suggested it could be a turning point for the club.

Chivas struggled as an institution on and off the field really ever since the 2010 Copa Libertadores final, but Vergara believes the dark days are over and this title will usher in a new era.
