Fabio Cannavaro struggling in second stint with Guangzhou Evergrande in CSL

Perhaps Luiz Felipe Scolari could see the writing on the wall as he made his exit from Guangzhou Evergrande last November after two-and-a-half trophy-filled seasons.

After building on the legacy of predecessors Lee Jang-soo and Marcello Lippi to make Guangzhou the most successful club ever in China, the Brazilian no doubt knew troubled times lay ahead. Despite guiding the club to three league titles, the Asian Champions League crown in 2015 and the Chinese FA Cup a year later, the signs Guangzhou's...

Guangzhou Evergrande drop five points behind Shanghai SIPG after loss

Fabio Cannavaro is hoping his Guangzhou Evergrande side will come back from the Chinese Super League's two-month World Cup break mentally refreshed after the seven-time champions dropped further off the pace with a 2-0 loss against Beijing Renhe on Sunday.

Benjamin Moukandjo and Augusto Fernandez scored for the newly promoted side as Evergrande dropped five points behind leaders Shanghai SIPG, who defeated Jiangsu Suning 2-0 to return to the summit ahead of the finals in Russia next month.

Tianjin oust Evergrande to advance to Asian Champions League quarterfinals

Guangzhou Evergrande are out despite a Ricardo Goulart brace

Guangzhou Evergrande crashed out of the Asian Champions League on Tuesday evening as Fabio Cannavaro's side were eliminated by Tianjin Quanjian on the away goals rule following a 2-2 draw that takes the Chinese Super League side into the quarterfinals of the continental championship.

Ricardo Goulart scored twice for Guangzhou in front of their own fans at Tianhe Stadium but goals from Alexandre Pato and Wang Jie secured Tianjin's passage to the last eight for the first time in the club's history.

Guangzhou Evergrande's last-gap win over Jiangsi Suning puts pressure on leaders Shanghai SIPG

Yu Hanchao celebrates scoring during Guangzhou Evergrande's match against Beijing Guoan.
Yu Hanchao's stoppage-time winner saw Guangzhou Evergrande defeat Jiangsu Suning.

Yu Hanchao's injury-time header earned Chinese Super League champions Guangzhou Evergrande a last-gasp 1-0 win over Jiangsu Suning on Saturday to keep the pressure on leaders Shanghai SIPG.

Fabio Cannavaro's side bounced back from last week's draw with Beijing Guoan to claim all three points and move on to 17 points, two shy of SIPG, who face Changchun Yatai on Sunday.

Yu headed home Zhang Wenchao's cross from the right from six yards out a minute into injury time to hand Jiangsu their first defeat...

Hulk, Wu Lei strike for SIPG vs. Hebei; Evergrande held to draw by Shenhua

Shanghai Shenhua's Zhu Jianrong
Shanghai Shenhua's Zhu Jianrong scored the first goal in a draw against Guangzhou Evergrande.

Shanghai SIPG opened up a five-point gap at the top of the Chinese Super League table on Friday as they handed Hebei China Fortune a 2-0 defeat .

SIPG racked up a league-record sixth straight win to maintain their perfect start to the campaign with Hulk and Wu Lei finding the back of the net for last year's runners-up against Hebei.

But it was Yan Junling who earned the praise of coach Vitor Pereira for denying Ezequiel Lavezzi 11 minutes before half-time, when the goalkeeper kept out a spot kick...
