Levante goalkeeper may miss La Liga game to work at polling station

Aitor Fernandez could miss this weekend's La Liga game.

Levante risk losing goalkeeper Aitor Fernandez for their La Liga trip to Athletic Bilbao after he was called up to work at a polling station ahead of Spain's parliamentary election on Sunday.

To make matters worse, reserve stopper Oier Olazabal is injured, meaning Levante could potentially be without a senior goalkeeper for the fixture.

Fernandez, who is from the Basque town of Mondragon approximately 50 kilometres from Bilbao, has been drafted onto a list of reserves who are required to attend...

La Liga champions Barcelona's long winning streak came to an abrupt halt when they fell to a shock 3-1 defeat away to Levante on Saturday after taking the lead but then conceding three times in the space of seven minutes in the second half.

Barca had returned to the top of the table by thrashing Real Valladolid 5-1 in mid-week for a seventh straight victory in all competitions and put themselves in a comfortable position when Lionel Messi converted a penalty in the 38th minute.

Their problems began...

Sevilla striker Luuk de Jong scored his first goal for the club to give them a deserved 1-0 win at home to Levante on Sunday in La Liga to go level on points with fourth-placed Real Sociedad.

The Dutchman had failed to score in his previous seven starts for Sevilla since his move from PSV Eindhoven and was dropped to the bench against Levante after missing a glut of chances in his side's 4-0 defeat at Barcelona.

He was brought on with 18 minutes to go as his side desperately chased a winner after...

Real Madrid clung on to record a nervy but vital 3-2 win at home to Levante in La Liga on Saturday following a shoddy second-half performance after taking a three-goal lead with a Karim Benzema double and Casemiro strike.

Benzema headed Real in front after 25 minutes when he met a cross from Dani Carvajal and the France forward struck again a few minutes later with a well-taken finish after latching on to a pass from James Rodriguez.

Brazil midfielder Casemiro stretched Real's advantage right before...

As Atletico Madrid's long-time servants Diego Godin and Antoine Griezmann brought their glittering careers with the club to an end, teenager Sergio Camello showed Atletico can still enjoy a bright future as he helped them to snatch a 2-2 La Liga draw at Levante on Saturday.

The 18-year-old made his debut by coming off the bench with his side two goals down after Erick Cabaco and Roger Marti struck in the first half and they were soon down to 10 men when Angel Correa was sent off for kicking out...
