Marseille won for the first time in Ligue 1 this season and added to Lorient's troubles after two sparkling goals lit up the Stade Velodrome.

They came from Remy Cabella and Bafetimbi Gomis, with the latter striking for the first time since joining on loan from Swansea to clinch a 2-0 victory.

Cabella gave Marseille a 19th-minute lead, curling a free-kick from 25 yards just inside goalkeeper Benjamin Lecomte's right-hand post.

Lecomte saved well twice from Gomis before half-time, while Lorient had...

No deal for Marseille sale nor Marcelo Bielsa return - Gerard Lopez

Marcelo Bielsa
Mogul Gerard Lopez denied reports that he is near a deal to buy Marseille and bring back Marcelo Bielsa.

Gerard Lopez, who was linked with a takeover of Marseille earlier this week, has denied that an agreement is in place to buy the club.

The nine-time French champions were put up for sale in April and France Football claimed that Lopez, 44, had not only agreed to take over but had also convinced Marcelo Bielsa to return as manager.

Current owner Margarita Louis-Dreyfus responded by issuing a statement which said that the report was based on "false and unverified information" and which condemned the...

Benfica's Adel Taarabt 'in talks with several clubs' about a transfer

Adel Taarabt is in talks with several teams about a move away from Benfica, with hometown club Marseille a dream destination.

Taarabt, 27, signed a five-year contract with Benfica in 2015 but has failed to break into the Portuguese side's starting XI.

He told France Football: "I just want a club that has trust in me. We are in talks with several clubs."

On the prospect of joining Marseille, he added: "It is the city where I grew up, where my parents live. It would be nice to go back home, to my...

Marseille manager Franck Passi calls for patience after disappointing start

Marseille's Georges Kevin N'Koudou is nearing a move to Spurs, Alison Bender looks at what the Frenchman can offer the North London club.
Franck Passi's new-look Marseille side have struggled at the start of the season.

Marseille manager Franck Passi insists there is no cause for panic, despite his team taking only one point from their first two matches of the Ligue 1 season.

Following a 0-0 draw at home to Toulouse on the opening weekend, Marseille conceded a goal in the first minute of their game at Guingamp on Sunday before slumping to a 2-1 defeat.

The 2010 French champions finished 13th last season, but Passi, 50, is not feeling any extra pressure after a slow start to his first full campaign in charge.

"I...

Yannis Salibur and Jeremy Sorbon both found the net as Guingamp stretched their unbeaten start to the Ligue 1 campaign with a 2-1 win over Marseille.

Salibur's first-minute goal stunned the visitors, who never fully recovered from that early setback.

Marseille goalkeeper Yohann Pele was at fault for the opener, which came after just 32 seconds of play.

Sorbon then turned in Lucas Deax's near-post cross just ahead of the hour, to double the hosts' advantage.

Florian Thauvin handed Marseille hope with...
