Minerva Punjab request AIFF to shift Real Kashmir game following Pulwama attack

Defending I-League champions Minerva Punjab have asked the All India Football Federation (AIFF) to shift their upcoming match against Real Kashmir, scheduled to be played in Srinagar on February 18, following the Pulwama terrorist attack that killed over 40 CRPF paramilitary troopers on Thursday. If the match is not shifted or rescheduled, club president Ranjit Bajaj said his side would rather forfeit the match and concede three points.

"There are bodies still being picked up from the streets. By...

I-League predictions: Mohun Bagan to pip East Bengal; difficult season for Aizawl

The I-League, still India's top club competition and qualifier for the AFC Champions League slot in early 2020, begins on October 26 with Chennai City FC hosting Indian Arrows.

The highlights of this season include a debut for the first team from Jammu and Kashmir in India's top-flight, the abolition of the mandatory Asian player quota, and a field of 11 teams that will include Churchill Brothers, who had their relegation overturned. Impressive individual performances will also keep India coach...

AIFF finds Minerva Punjab owner 'guilty' of racial abuse

Kolkata -- I-League champions Minerva Punjab FC's owner Ranjit Bajaj has been banned for one year from all football activities and also fined Rs 10 lakh by the AIFF after the federation found him 'guilty' of making racist remarks against a referee.

The AIFF's Disclipinary Committee said this was the fourth offence committed by Bajaj within a span of year.

The latest incident happened during Minerva's Under-18 Youth League play-off match against Aizawl FC that ended in a 1-1 draw at JLN Stadium in...

Minerva Punjab express displeasure over Super Cup draw

I-League champions Minerva and runners-up NEROCA have been drawn to face ISL teams in the round of 16 itself.

Less than a week after completing an improbable I-League win, Minerva Punjab have expressed their displeasure over both the "discrimination" in the draw for the upcoming Super Cup, as well as the perceived insufficient financial support from the All India Football Federation (AIFF) for the knockout tournament that starts with the qualifiers in Bhubaneswar on March 15.

"Even if we play one small local tournament, the organisers put you up in one place at least. Here we have come to know that there...

Army of champions: Deconstructing the Minerva fairy-tale

A first-half goal from William Opoku earned Minerva a 1-0 win over Churchill Brothers, helping them seal the title on the final day.
From ninth to first: Minerva upset the odds to win the I-League

At first, Kassim Aidara thought he had the wrong location. Aidara had just signed with I-League club Minerva Punjab FC. Having played for over a decade in Europe, it was a gamble on Aidara's part, but a necessary one if he had to get a foothold in the Indian football scene.

When he arrived at the address he'd been given for his club, in the village of Daon along the Chandigarh-Mohali highway, he was confused by what he saw.

Two rifle-bearing guards, who seemed to have been pulled out of Chandigarh's...
