A late penalty from Nadir Ciftci helped Dundee United overcome 10-man Partick Thistle 1-0 at Tannadice to close the gap on Scottish Premiership leaders Hamilton.

Ciftci stuck from the penalty spot in the 83rd minute after he was brought down by Thistle captain Daniel Seaborne, who was sent off for his last-man foul.

Partick were the better team in the second half but Ciftci's spot-kick means Jackie McNamara's side now sit just one point behind Hamilton, despite not being at their best in this match.

Partick Thistle full-back Stephen O'Donnell scored one and set up another as a 3-1 victory over Motherwell sent the visitors into second-bottom spot in the Scottish Premiership.

The Jags were largely comfortable after Stuart Bannigan gave them a 16th-minute lead, although the game might have been different had Henrik Ojamaa's early header been inches lower rather than hitting the underside of the bar.

O'Donnell fed Kris Doolan for the second after the break and took advantage of a completely absent...

Ali Crawford scored twice as Hamilton crushed Lanarkshire rivals Motherwell 4-0 to complete a derby double.

In doing so, three days after beating Motherwell on penalties in the League Cup, high-flying Hamilton stretched their unbeaten Scottish Premiership run to seven games.

Motherwell hoped to get over their midweek misery and build up some league consistency after a fine draw at Celtic Park last Saturday.

But manager Stuart McCall's decision to make seven changes to his starting line-up backfired...

Teenager Craig Watson was the sudden-death hero as Hamilton knocked Lanarkshire rivals Motherwell out of the League Cup.

Watson sealed a 6-5 victory on penalties following a goalless third-round tie at New Douglas Park that saw both sides reduced to 10 men.

After a tight opening half, Hamilton had Stephen Hendrie sent off in the 65th minute for a second foul on Lionel Ainsworth and Motherwell had chances to win it before and after the end of the 90 minutes.

But Michael McGovern produced a brilliant...

Kris Commons scored from the spot to give Celtic a 1-1 Premiership draw against Motherwell at Parkhead on a day Hoops manager Ronny Deila perhaps discovered a lack of depth to his squad.

Fir Park striker John Sutton opened the scoring in the 19th minute before missing a great chance to double the lead from six yards with the home team booed off at the interval.

Celtic skipper Scott Brown and Commons, two of the six players left out by Deila as he rang the changes, came on for the start of the second...
