Motherwell winger Elliott Frear says relegation battle is a challenge

Motherwell winger Elliott Frear admits his first relegation battle is challenging rather than enjoyable.

The 26-year-old Englishman joined the Fir Park club from Forest Green Rovers in January and his first start was in the 7-2 thrashing by Aberdeen at Pittodrie which was followed by a 5-1 home defeat to Dundee.

After the loss to the Dark Blues, boss Mark McGhee made way for Stephen Robinson.

Frear described his start to life in the Ladbrokes Premiership as an "eye opener".

Scott McDonald's controversial goal helped Motherwell to a 4-2 victory which left Inverness rooted to the bottom of the Ladbrokes Premiership.

Motherwell were two up inside nine minutes at Fir Park thanks to goals from Chris Cadden and Louis Moult but Alex Fisher's double brought Inverness level.

However, the home side got back on top and McDonald's header was ruled to have crossed the line despite protests from the visitors, before Allan Campbell produced a more emphatic headed finish.

Kris Doolan hit the only goal as Partick Thistle secured a top-six finish for the first time since 1981 with victory over Motherwell.

Doolan's early goal proved more than enough to ensure Thistle will be in the top half of the Ladbrokes Premiership after the split and guarantees their highest finish since they came sixth in the league 36 years ago.

Thistle dominated the first half against a disjointed Motherwell side, who were again without injured top goalscorer Louis Moult. But they faced long periods...

Hamilton midfielder Darian MacKinnon was sent off for aiming a rude gesture at the crowd during the 0-0 draw with Hamilton.

MacKinnon was targeted by a home fan in the 74th minute and reacted negatively, flicking a one-fingered salute that referee Kevin Clancy saw as a red-card offence.

The goalless outcome hits both sides' survival prospects but Motherwell thought they had taken the lead inside the first half when Ben Heneghan's header appeared to cross the line.

Pedro Caixinha will have a much better grasp on the rebuilding job required at Ibrox after watching his new Rangers team scrape a 1-1 Ibrox draw with Motherwell.

The Portuguese boss was forced to use all three substitutions at half-time after lacklustre Gers fell behind to Louis Moult's third-minute opener.

But the bold move paid off with one of his replacements Joe Garner levelling on the hour mark.

The result sees Caixinha's side fall 11 points behind Aberdeen in the race for second but will leave...
