Sounders, Timbers, Sporting KC, Dynamo clinch MLS playoff berths

Seattle secured their ninth consecutive trip to the MLS postseason, while Dallas no longer control their playoff destiny.

Will Bruin scored twice in four minutes midway through the second half and the Seattle Sounders clinched a playoff berth and a chance to defend their MLS Cup by beating FC Dallas 4-0 on Sunday.

The Sounders are tied for second place in the Western Conference with Portland at 50 points apiece with one game left, two points behind West-leading Vancouver.

Dallas still has not clinched a playoff spot and is tied with the San Jose Earthquakes for the final position at 43 points after Sunday's games.

Red Bulls trounce Whitecaps to seal last MLS playoff spot in East

New York Red Bulls sealed the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference with a win over Western leaders Vancouver.

The New York Red Bulls secured the last remaining MLS playoff spot in the Eastern Conference by defeating the Vancouver Whitecaps 3-0 on Saturday.

The Red Bulls are in the playoffs for the eighth straight year, while the result also ended the slim playoff hopes of four other teams in the East -- Montreal, New England, Orlando and Philadelphia.

New York took the lead in the 33rd minute when Sacha Kljestan spotted Daniel Royer racing into the box, and the Austrian scored for the second straight game.
