HARRISON, N.J. -- The New York Red Bulls have signed forward Mike Grella and waived midfielder Ian Christianson.

Grella made the team after a tryout during the team's first preseason trip to Orlando, Florida.

The 28-year-old who played at Duke and spent last year with the Carolina RailHawks of the second-tier North American Soccer League.

He has played in England with Leeds, Carlisle, Swindon, Brentford, Bury, Scunthorpe and Denmark's Viborg.

Tim Cahill signs with Chinese Super League giants Shanghai Shenhua

It was an eventful transfer deadline day for Tim Cahill as he announced he'd be leaving the New York Red Bulls, and now is headed to the Chinese Super League with Shanghai Shenhua.

Former Everton and New York Red Bulls star Tim Cahill has confirmed that he has joined Chinese giants Shanghai Shenhua.

Cahill, 35, announced the news just hours after the MLS side said on Monday that the Australian midfielder had left the club by mutual agreement, making him a free agent.
