Ex-United States caretaker boss Dave Sarachan joins North Carolina FC

Dave Sarachan is preparing the U.S. for September friendlies against Brazil and Mexico.
Dave Sarchan spent nearly all of 2018 as caretaker coach of the United States.

Dave Sarachan, who led the United States on a caretaker basis for nearly all of 2018, has signed with USL side North Carolina FC to become the team's next manager, the club announced on Monday.

Sarachan, 64, takes over from Colin Clarke, who was relieved of his duties after NCFC failed to reach the playoffs last season.

North Carolina FC completes move from NASL to USL

North Carolina FC will play in the USL starting in 2018.

North Carolina FC completed its long-awaited move to the United Soccer League on Thursday.

The club, formerly known as the Carolina Railhawks, has played in the North American Soccer League since it re-formed in 2011 but will now switch over to USL, which is more closely affiliated with Major League Soccer and gained provisional Division 2 status from the U.S. Soccer Federation this year.

MLS executives to visit North Carolina amid expansion efforts

North Carolina FC is trying to earn an expansion slot in Major League Soccer.

MLS executives, including president and deputy commissioner Mark Abbott, will pay a visit to North Carolina FC and the Triangle area on July 19 as part of their tour of potential MLS expansion cities, the club announced on Tuesday.

The MLS contingent will meet with business leaders and government officials and participate in several events organized by NCFC to showcase the Raleigh-Durham market as it pursues an MLS franchise.
