Former Chiefs, Pirates star Marc Batchelor shot dead

Former Kaiser Chiefs and Orlando Pirates footballer Marc Batchelor was shot dead outside his home in Johannesburg on Monday, police have confirmed.

The 49-year-old striker, who also played for Mamelodi Sundowns, was shot in his car. Another person in the vehicle was unharmed in the incident.

"He was attacked by two men who were driving a motorbike," a police spokesman told the South African Broadcasting Corporation on Tuesday.

"He was about to drive into his premises. The suspects shot several times...

Micho's Orlando Pirates title mission nears completion

Orlando Pirates are on the brink of winning the South African Premier Soccer League after seven years without a title, the silverware set to crown a campaign underpinned by the coaching prowess, and sleepless nights, of coach Milutin 'Micho' Sredojevic.

The 49-year-old Serb originally joined the Buccaneers back in 2006, but departed after just over six months at the helm, despite overseeing the club's best continental campaign since they won the African Cup of Champions Clubs (now the CAF Champions...

Soweto derby loss for Chiefs comes as no surprise

Another deflating Soweto Derby loss for Kaizer Chiefs and the exit at the semifinal stage of another cup competition highlights the growing crisis at Naturena that threatens to turn the once mighty Glamour boys into one of the 'also-rans' of the Premier Soccer League.

The scoreline might only have been 2-1 in their latest defeat to Orlando Pirates, the first time in history that The Buccaneers have won three games on the bounce against their bitter rivals, but the margin on the field was much greater...

Kaizer Chiefs 1-2 Orlando Pirates: Player Ratings

Orlando Pirates continued their recent dominance over Kaizer Chiefs with a 2-1 victory in the Telkom Knockout semi-finals at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday.

It was more agony for Chiefs fans, who are now winless in 11 matches against their bitter rivals, a Soweto Derby record.

In this feature, ESPN rates the performance of the players on either side.

KAIZER CHIEFS

7 - Itumeleng Khune: Was not at fault for either goal and made a few good saves. Looked assured under the high ball.

5 - Rama...

Pirates sweat over fitness of international stars ahead of Soweto Derby

The fitness of his international players is occupying the mind of Orlando Pirates coach Micho Sredojevic ahead of Saturday's crunch Telkom Knockout semifinal against bitter rivals Kaizer Chiefs at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban.

Pirates had a number of players away on duty with their countries in the African Nations Cup qualifiers and subsequent friendlies, in particular the South African duo of Vincent Pule and Innocent Maela, Zambia's Justin Shonga and Augustine Mulenga and Zimbabwe's Marshall...
