Referee explains Marco Verratti's booking for 'trickery'

Johan Hamel booked Marco Verratti, centre, for trickery, leading to PSG objections led by Thiago Motta, second left.

Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Marco Verratti was given an unusual yellow card on Saturday for anti-sporting behavior known in the game as "trickery," leading the referee to explain his decision.

Verratti was booked by referee Johan Hamel after dropping to his knees and using his head to send the ball trickling back to his goalkeeper Kevin Trapp, who could pick it up because his teammate had not passed the ball back with his feet.

Paris Saint-Germain coach Unai Emery has admitted the extent of Julian Draxler's injury sustained in Saturday's 2-0 win away at FC Nantes is unknown for now but the Spaniard hopes it is not serious.

Draxler limped off in the 68th minute, moments after sitting down clutching his left calf muscle. But Emery said after the game: "I do not think it is serious. I hope it is just a knock."

Positives

Cavani getting his first goals of 2017 was a big boost. The Uruguay international was disappointing against FC Metz in the Coupe de la Ligue and Stade Rennais in Ligue 1, but he was much improved against Les Canaris on Saturday.

Another plus was Kevin Trapp's latest clean sheet. Unai Emery's men have yet to concede a goal in 2017 and the defence is finding form at the right...

Edison Cavani scored both goals in PSG's win over Nantes, bringing his Ligue 1 goal tally to 20.

Edinson Cavani punished Nantes for missing clear chances by scoring both goals as Paris Saint-Germain won 2-0 away from home to move one point behind leaders Nice in Ligue 1.

Heading into the match, Nantes had only lost once in seven games since coach Sergio Conceicao took charge early last month. Confidence showed as Nantes began at a frenetic pace, closing down PSG's players and depriving them of space to pass.

The pressure almost worked when PSG right-back Thomas Meunier clumsily hacked the...
