Among the Chugs: How Phoenix Rising's Dollar Beer Night became a 13-0-0 phenomenon

Since starting their promotion in 2017, Phoenix have not lost a game on Dollar Beer Night.

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- Clay Meschke had seen the belt sit on a shelf at his local skate shop for a while.

It was like a fanny pack for beer, with six insulated holders across the front and snaps in the back. He knew he needed it, but for what? Though he wasn't sure, every time the 26-year-old went in, the belt was still there, untouched, unsold. Finally, one day he offered $10 for it. Sold.

"I kind of just kept it around for moments like this," Meschke said.

On Friday night, Meschke found a use...

Ex-Chelsea, Ivory Coast striker Didier Drogba announces retirement

Former Chelsea striker Didier Drogba announced his retirement on Wednesday, calling time on a 20-year career in which the bullish centre forward won four Premier League titles and the 2012 Champions League.

Drogba, who had been playing in the United States for Phoenix Rising, had two spells at Chelsea, scoring 164 goals in 381 games having spearheaded the west London club's revival under owner Roman Abramovich.

"When I think of the last 20 years of my professional career, looking at this picture...

Didier Drogba indicates he'll continue playing after USL Cup loss

Didier Drogba joined Phoenix Rising in 2017 as player and co-owner.
Didier Drogba has played for USL club Phoenix Rising FC, where he is a co-owner, since 2017.

Former Chelsea and Ivory Coast striker Didier Drogba seemingly hinted on Friday that he will continue playing football, one day after the Phoenix Rising FC's defeat in the final of the United Soccer League Cup.

Drogba, a player and co-owner at the Phoenix club since 2017, had previously said that he would retire at the end of the season, which has now come to a close with the 1-0 loss to Louisville City FC.

Drogba did not address the topic following Thursday's match, but he posted on Friday a message...

Where does Didier Drogba stand among Africa's all-time greats?

While many ageing greats gently slide into obscurity as they reach the end of their playing careers, Didier Drogba has continued generating headlines for his on-field contributions right up until the end.

If, as he has said it will be, the current season proves to be the last of his storied playing career, the 40-year-old has certainly ensured he's gone out with a bang.

Only last month, the former Chelsea superstar made headlines with an outrageous 40-yard free kick for Phoenix Rising as he led...
