A brilliant individual goal a minute from time by man of the match Mark Marshall earned Port Vale a deserved 2-1 victory against Barnsley.

Winger Marshall was prominent as Vale, with caretaker manager Rob Page in charge following the resignation of Micky Adams, made a determined start.

And steady pressure brought its reward in the 24th minute after Louis Dodds was tripped by Joe Dudgeon 20 yards from goal.

Michael O'Connor stepped up and curled a terrific right-foot shot over the defensive wall and...

Micky Adams leaves Port Vale

Micky Adams has stepped down as manager of League One club Port Vale.

Adams' second stint in charge at Vale Park ends after just under three and a half years at the helm, following a miserable run of six straight defeats in all competitions.

The 52-year-old has made the decision to leave after discussions with club chairman Norman Smurthwaite on Thursday morning.

He said via a statement on the club's official website: "It is with great sadness that I have decided to leave Port Vale but I believe...

Bristol City claimed a fourth straight victory with an easy 3-0 success at Port Vale who crashed to a sixth defeat on the trot.

Tom Pope squandered an early chance for Vale before Aaron Wilbraham's sixth goal of the season gave the classy visitors a 13th-minute lead.

Aden Flint headed Luke Freeman's cross against the bar and Wilbraham reacted first to turn a right-footed shot inside goalkeeper Chris Neal's right-hand post from three yards.

Vale worked hard to get back into the game for the remainder...

Crewe claimed their first points of the campaign with a 2-1 win over neighbours Port Vale.

The Railwaymen, beaten in all five previous League One matches, rose to the occasion and stunned their rivals when they raced into a two-goal lead in the first-half thanks to George Ray and Vadaine Oliver.

Ray turned from saint to sinner when he pulled back Jordan Slew to hand Vale a penalty, which the on-loan Blackburn striker converted at the second attempt.

Crewe got the perfect start when Ray hooked the ball...

Peterborough breezed past Port Vale with a 3-1 victory to consolidate their position at the top of Sky Bet League One.

Posh took their tally to 12 goals in six games and moved four points clear of third-placed Fleetwood in the home triumph.

New recruit Marcus Maddison continued an explosive start to his Posh career with a glorious opening goal. The former Gateshead wideman volleyed past Vale keeper Chris Neal on the half-hour - his second goal in as many appearances since becoming the London Road club's...
