Preston North End's Kevin O'Connor celebrates winning Irish lottery with his family.

Preston North End defender Kevin O'Connor is now a much richer man after winning the National Lottery Christmas Millionaire Raffle jackpot in Ireland.

The 22-year-old left-back, who only joined the Championship side a couple of months ago, scooped €1 million after receiving the winning ticket as a Christmas gift from his uncle.

According to The Irish Independent, the lucky numbers were posted to O'Connor by his uncle Peadar along with a little note that read "I wish you the best of luck".

Bernard, 105, helps Preston kick off the season in style

Preston North End kicked off their Championship campaign by inviting a very special fan to be their mascot for the day.

That supporter was none other than 105-year-old Bernard, who has followed the club for the last century or so.

And Bernard was in his element as his beloved club laid on a fitting VIP experience at Deepdale before Saturday's opener against Sheffield Wednesday.

Eoin Doyle and Jermaine Beckford sent off for fighting each other

When it's not your day, it's not your day.

Spare a thought for Preston North End, who slumped to a 2-1 defeat at Sheffield Wednesday and ended the match with nine men.

Leeds United fan goes crowd surfing at Preston North End

At the end of another long and underwhelming campaign, one Leeds United supporter was determined to enjoy himself while his team signed off for 2016-17 with a 1-1 draw against Preston.

In attempting to instigate a party atmosphere at Preston's Deepdale ground, the fan in question decided that a spot of crowd surfing up in the terraces was the way to go.

Why, the crazy fool even brought his own surfboard along.

Manchester Utd goal lands Preston's Scott Laird £1 from his grandmother

Scott Laird celebrates his effort against Manchester United.

Goal bonuses being what they are for professional footballers, we imagined that Preston left-back Scott Laird cleaned up when he found the net against Manchester United.

The League One star scored the opening goal in his side's 3-1 defeat on Monday night but landed only a single pound for his efforts, although it did come from his grandmother.

"Every time we scored as kids, she used to give me and my brothers a pound," the 26-year-old told BBC Somerset. "Even though I'm 26 now, I still carry that...
