Sam Vokes has expressed surprise that Joey Barton gave up another shot at the Premier League to join Rangers.

Barton helped Burnley to the Sky Bet Championship title this season and an instant return to the top flight.

But he turned down a lucrative 12-month deal to stay at Turf Moor, and has instead headed to Scotland to join Rangers on a two-year contract.

Joey Barton will join Rangers on a two-year contract when his Burnley deal expires this summer.

Barton, 33, joined Burnley on a one-year deal last summer and helped the club to return to the Premier League after winning the Championship, but he has opted to move on to Rangers after they secured promotion to the Scottish Premiership.

Rangers have launched legal proceedings against Charles Green and Mike Ashley.

The Ibrox outfit have also notified the Court of Session in Edinburgh they plan to take action against former Gers directors Imran Ahmad, Brian Stockbridge and Derek Llambias as well as Ashley's SportsDirect.com Retail Ltd business.
