Rangers moved two points clear at the top of the Ladbrokes Championship as they beat Queen of the South 5-1 at Palmerston.

Goals from Andy Halliday, Jason Holt and Barrie McKay plus two Martyn Waghorn penalties ensured Mark Warburton became the first Gers boss since Bill Struth in 1920 to win his first eight games in charge.

James Fowler's team did pull one back with quarter of an hour left when Aidan Smith ran in to beat Wes Foderingham.

Rampant Rangers hit Airdrie with a goal blitz as they cruised into the third round of the League Cup with a 5-0 win at the Excelsior Stadium.

Nicky Clark, Andy Halliday and Martyn Waghorn all netted inside the first quarter-hour to put their team on easy street.

Dean Shiels and James Tavernier then added the gloss late on as Mark Warburton's team extended their triumphant start to the campaign to seven straight wins.

Gary Bollan's Diamonds barely got a sniff of the ball for large spells but will be...

A wonderful second-half free-kick from James Tavernier proved enough to beat Hibernian and take Rangers back to the top of the Ladbrokes Championship.

Mark Warburton's side had beaten the Easter Road men 6-2 in their Petrofac Training Cup encounter at the start of the season but there was no chance of a repeat at Ibrox.

Indeed, Alan Stubbs' side missed chances before and after the 23-year-old former Wigan player dipped his set-piece from outside the box over Hibees keeper Mark Oxley in the 65th minute...

Rangers made it five wins out of five under Mark Warburton with a comfortable 2-0 victory over Ayr United in the Petrofac Training Cup.

First-half goals from Nicky Clark and Barrie McKay proved enough as Rangers took their goal tally to 19 for the season to progress to the quarter-finals of a competition they have not won in three attempts.

Warburton brought in five players including Tottenham loan pair Dominic Ball and Nathan Oduwa, who had sparked debate with his ambitious attempted flick on his...
