Kevin Muscat's reign at Melbourne Victory is over, the club legend taking leave from his coaching tenure with a 3-1 loss to Sanfrecce Hirosima in the AFC Champions League.

On an eerie night at AAMI Park, the A-League powerhouses said farewell to Muscat, captain Carl Valeri and marquee Keisuke Honda.

There was plenty of love from the crowd of 6,053, which sang and cheered for their departing trio. But in keeping with Victory's unfortunate campaign in Asia, they were undone by two world-class goals.

Sanfrecce Hiroshima ruined Keisuke Honda's Japanese homecoming, finding a late goal to dent Melbourne Victory's AFC Champions League ambitions.

The J-League club won 2-1 on Tuesday night, scoring either side of Honda's equaliser to secure a result against the run of play.

Teenage talent Shunki Higashi netted after just three minutes and Daiki Watari put a header past Lawrence Thomas with four minutes remaining, just as Victory thought they'd nabbed a share of the spoils.

Sanfrecce Hiroshima sign Besart Berisha from Melbourne Victory

Besart Berisha
Besart Berisha.

The A-League has lost perhaps its greatest striker after Besart Berisha secured a lucrative move to Japan.

Nearly two months after hinting at a move abroad, the competition's most prolific scorer has joined J-League leaders Sanfrecce Hiroshima.

It means the 32-year-old won't see out the remaining season of his deal with Melbourne Victory.

But it also represents a deserved late-career payday for the Kosovo international, who's dominated the A-League since arriving at Brisbane Roar in 2011.

He moved...

Teerasil Dangda to join Sanfrecce Hiroshima after clash with JDT

Teerasil celebrates goal for Thailand in 2016 AFF Cup
Teerasil Dangda has been capped 91 times by Thailand.

Muang Thong United striker Teerasil Dangda will become the second Thailand international in the J.League's top tier next year having sealed a one-year loan deal with Sanfrecce Hiroshima.

Teerasil joined the Japanese side one year to the day after playmaker Chanathip Songkrasin signed an 18-month loan deal with Consadole Sapporo.

But Teerasil will stay on for Muang Thong's AFC Champions League preliminary round clash against Malaysia's Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT) on Jan. 23rd. And he will also be available...

Masato Kudo leaves Whitecaps after one season, returns to J-League

Masato Kudo's time in MLS is over after one season.

Masato Kudo has left the Vancouver Whitecaps after one season to sign with Sanfrecce Hiroshima in Japan.

The 26-year-old and the MLS club mutually agreed to terminate his contract on Friday, and the J-League team said on Saturday his transfer was completed.

"Masato is one of the best professionals I have ever worked with and we are thankful for the contributions he made during his time in Vancouver," Whitecaps coach Carl Robinson said in a statement.

"This move will provide Masato an opportunity...
