U.S. international Ventura Alvarado joins Necaxa from Santos Laguna

With the Liguilla quarterfinals complete, Herculez Gomez and Max Bretos discuss what they learned and what to expect in the semis.

United States defender Ventura Alvarado has signed for Necaxa from Santos Laguna, with Mexican winger Jesus Isijara moving the other way.

Phoenix native Alvarado came through Club America's youth system ranks and had a previous stint with Necaxa back in 2013-14, when the club was in the second division.

"The club is grateful for the dedication and commitment shown by Ventura during his time with us, and we wish him the very best in this next stage of his professional career," read a statement from...

'There won't be another player like Pele' - Brazil legend retired in 1977

Pele is carried off the pitch in his final game.

When Edson Arantes do Nascimento (otherwise known as Pele) finally retired on Oct. 1, 1977, he stood in the centre of the pitch in New Jersey, held his right hand aloft in a victory salute at the end of a short speech and said simply: "Love, love, love."

Having scored and played for both sides in a friendly between the only two teams he ever represented, New York Cosmos and Santos, the man considered by many to be the greatest player of all-time would not be seen in competitive action again.

Man United join Barcelona in chase for wantaway Santos star Lucas Lima

Sid Lowe says Dembele's injury provides an opportunity for Deulofeu, but Ernesto Valverde could change Barcelona's shape.

Deadline day has come and gone, and all the latest deals and potential deals can be found here, but there's plenty brewing in the market as clubs begin to look toward January.

Man United to battle Barca for Lucas Lima

Manchester United could emerge as rivals to Barcelona to land Lucas Lima on a free transfer in January, claims the Manchester Evening News.

The Santos star has refused to extend his deal and will allow his contract to expire at the end of the calendar year.

The Blaugrana were...

Real Madrid equal Santos' world record for scoring in consecutive games

Real Madrid equalled the world record of scoring in consecutive matches -- set at 73 by Brazilian club Santos in 1963 -- when Borja Mayoral hit the back of the net in Sunday's 3-1 triumph at Real Sociedad.

Real's run began at Real Sociedad's Anoeta stadium on April 30, 2016, with Gareth Bale providing the only goal of the game.

No defence has been able to shut out Real's attack in any competition since Manchester City did so in their 0-0 Champions League semifinal first leg at the Etihad Stadium...

South America's Champions League, the Copa Libertadores, picks up pace

Bolivian side Wilstermann weren't expected to get to the Copa Libertadores quarterfinals and hope to continue their journey by defeating River Plate.

Some three and a half months have passed since the group phase came to an end and the Copa Libertadores field was whittled down to 16 teams. Since then there has only been one more round.

Eight teams remain. By next Thursday there will only be four, and come the end of November the continent will have its champion, just in time to go to the Arab Emirates and take part in the Club World Cup.

By pure coincidence, there is a delightful symmetry about the quarterfinals. Argentina and Brazil each provide...
