Russia's Giorgi Jikia doubt for World Cup after tearing ACL

Giorgi Jikia is a doubt to play for Russia in the World Cup.

Russia defender Giorgi Jikia tore his anterior cruciate ligament in a club friendly on Thursday and could be ruled out of the World Cup.

Jikia hurt his left knee while playing for Spartak Moscow against Chinese team Shanghai SIPG in the United Arab Emirates.

Video footage showed him clutching his knee and howling in pain, before being taken away on a stretcher.

Spartak said in a statement that Jikia has been released from hospital and is in the team hotel, but that he will require an operation.

FIFA has said Spartak's punishment is up to the Russian FA.

FIFA has condemned Spartak Moscow after the club posted an offensive message on their own official Twitter feed on Saturday.

Bayern Munich and Spartak Moscow both fined for UCL crowd disturbances

Bayern Munich have been fined €20,000 and Spartak Moscow €3,000 following crowd disturbances during Champions League matches.

The Germans were charged by UEFA with two incidents -- the throwing of objects and displaying an illicit banner -- during the Group B match against Anderlecht in Belgium on Nov. 22.

Rhian Brewster has alleged he was racially abused during a match against Spartak Moscow.

LIVERPOOL -- The agent of Leonid Mironov agent has denied claims that the Spartak Moscow youngster racially abused Liverpool's Rhian Brewster.

On Thursday, UEFA charged Mironov, 19, with racist behaviour during Liverpool's UEFA Youth League match with Spartak at Prenton Park.

At the end of the 2-0 win for Steven Gerrard's team, Brewster had to be restrained by teammates and Liverpool staff before the Merseyside club reported to UEFA that they believed the 17-year-old was subject to racial abuse.
