St Mirren defied their lowly Ladbrokes Championship status by defeating Dundee 2-0 in the William Hill Scottish Cup fourth round at Dens Park.

Jack Ross' struggling side were the surprise winners on Tayside thanks to goals in either half from striker John Sutton and defender Jack Baird.

Saints have had a tough season up until now but forgot about being seven points adrift at the foot of the Championship to leave Paul Hartley's Premiership hopefuls deflated.

Dundee were missing suspended skipper Darren...

Dundee United were forced to fight back from behind to sink rock-bottom St Mirren 2-1 and move to the top of the Scottish Championship.

The visitors grabbed a shock 27th-minute lead through John Sutton, but their advantage was immediately ruled out by Scott Fraser's equaliser.

The hosts' pressure paid off in first-half injury time when Simon Murray headed home a Fraser set-piece to put them in front.

Murray, Sean Dillon and Coll Donaldson all had chances to increase the home side's lead as they dominated...

Dunfermline heaped more misery on basement boys St Mirren with a 1-0 Ladbrokes Championship win at St Mirren Park.

The hosts rued a missed Lewis Morgan header early in the first half as Nicky Clark pounced on a weak Lee Ashcroft effort to slot home and give the Pars a half-time lead.

Farid El Alagui had a chance to equalise after getting on the end of Kallum Higginbotham's cross, but he could only head wide, with Stephen Mallan also shooting straight at visiting goalkeeper Sean Murdoch as the hosts...

St Mirren hire Alloa's Jack Ross as new manager

St Mirren have appointed Jack Ross as their new manager, the club confirmed on Tuesday.

The Buddies have been on the look out for a boss since sacking Alex Rae last month.

Now -- after failing with bids for Billy Davies, Neil Warnock and John Hughes -- the Paisley outfit have turned to Alloa manager Ross.

The 40-year-old spent two years as a player with Saints but his task now will be to turn their season around. The club currently sit bottom of the Championship without a win from eight games so...

Tom Walsh produced an excellent equaliser to earn bottom-of-the-table St Mirren a 1-1 draw at home to Falkirk in the Ladbrokes Championship.

Falkirk had taken the lead in the ninth minute when Craig Sibbald's free-kick took a deflection on its way into the net.

Saints keeper Jamie Langfield did well to keep out Bob McHugh's header on the stroke of half-time and then denied substitute James Craigen.

Those stops proved crucial as the home side - still winless in the league - snatched an equaliser with...
