Luciano Vietto scored twice as Villarreal claimed a 3-0 win over Primera Division strugglers Deportivo La Coruna on Sunday to keep the top four in their sights.

Jonathan dos Santos opened the scoring for the Yellow Submarine in the 10th minute before a second-half double from Vietto sealed the win.

Villarreal finished the game with 10 men after Tomas Pina was sent off in the 80th minute for a professional foul on Depor midfielder Alex Bergantinos, but it did not affect the result.

Do Liverpool regret passing on Villarreal striker Luciano Vietto?

ESPN FC's Stu Holden and Craig Burley delve deeper into Liverpool's worst league start in 50 years, citing Brendan Rodgers appears to be a man short of ideas.

In October 2011, Luciano Vietto was given his first team debut for Racing Club in Argentina. He only entered the field for five minutes towards the end of the game against Lanus, but for a 17-year-old kid that was a huge moment that will stay in his heart forever. Atletico Madrid lost further ground on title rivals Real Madrid and Barcelona as Luciano Vietto's solitary late goal took all three points for Villarreal and inflicted a first home league defeat on Diego Simeone's side since March 2013.

Los Rojiblancos were left cursing their luck as Mario Mandzukic had a goal harshly ruled out at the start of the second half.

But Villarreal were more than a match for the league champions and were worthy of the 1-0 win, which ended Atletico's run of 27 league games...

Three Points: Atletico Madrid vs. Villarreal

Atletico Madrid head coach Diego Simeone remained coy on the possibility of Fernando Torres returning to Spain.

MADRID -- Three quick thoughts from the Estadio Vicente Calderon as Atletico Madrid were surprisingly beaten 1-0 at home by Villarreal.

1. Atletico slip up

Atletico's first home defeat of 2014 came as a surprise, but Diego Simeone's side did not play well here. Villarreal came to sit deep and look to frustrate their opponents -- and managed the job very, very well.

The game's first shot on target came on 37 minutes, with a side-footer from the edge of the box by Tiago well saved by Villarreal's...
