Former Matildas star Joanne Burgess joins the Western Sydney Wanderers

Western Sydney have pulled off a major coup ahead of the W-League season, luring former Matildas midfielder Joanne Burgess out of retirement.

The 36-year-old will join the Wanderers, two years after playing her last games for the Matildas and the Brisbane Roar.

"After retiring from the Westfield W-League last time I always regretted not finishing up with my home team and where I grew up," explained Burgess.

"I grew up in Campbelltown and have played for Western Sydney teams almost my entire life...

Western Sydney Wanderers have signed Argentine midfielder Nicolas Martinez on an A-League loan deal from Olympiacos in Greece.

Joining the Wanderers as a marquee player, the 28-year-old attacking midfielder will wear the No. 10 jersey for the Red and Black.

With more than 160 first-team appearances, Martinez began his career in South America before moving to Europe with Real Murcia in Spain.

Cult hero Kerem Bulut is back to boost Western Sydney Wanderers' hopes ahead of the A-League season.

The 24-year-old striker has signed a two-year deal to return to the Wanderers after a season spent playing in Greece.

"I had a bit of a rough season last year so it's good to be back," said Bulut.

"We've got a big season coming up with the league and the [Asian] Champions League, the new squad is looking perfect and it's just good to be around at the club that I love."

A-League derbies between Western Sydney Wanderers and Sydney FC at ANZ Stadium could become the norm if the opening-round A-League fixture attracts a big crowd.

The Wanderers will open their season against crosstown rivals Sydney FC at the ground on Oct. 8, in a match that is all-but-certain to attract more fans than any previous meeting between the two clubs.

Western Sydney Wanderers defender Scott Jamieson is heading to IFK Goteborg.

Western Sydney have confirmed the departure of A-League defender Scott Jamieson, who is poised to join Swedish giants IFK Goteborg.

Jamieson has reportedly agreed to a one-year deal with Goteborg, with an option for a second year, after the club's initial move for the experienced left-back had been rejected last month by the Wanderers.

Jamieson, 27, had a year left to run on his contract with the Wanderers but was able to leave because his release clause, reportedly around $200,000, was triggered.
