Tigres beat Herediano on the road, Arabe Unido stuns Monterrey

Damm Tigres vs Herediano 160817
Tigres' Jurgen Damm, center, vies for the ball with Pablo Salazar of Herediano.

Liga MX side Tigres cruised to a 3-1 win over Costa Rica's Herediano in Wednesday's CONCACAF Champions League action.

Neither team were able to break the deadlock in the first 45 minutes, but that all changed when Fernando Fernandez found the back of the net for U.A.N.L. just one minute after the restart.

Jose Sanchez Barquero pinched a goal back for the hosts 10 minutes later with a well-taken strike, before Damian Alvarez and Jorge Espericueta made sure of the victory for Ricardo Ferretti's side.

Arabe Unido ran out to an early 3-1 lead against Monterrey and never looked back, as the Panamanian club held on for a 3-2 win in Group D.

Jose Gonzalez picked up the ball just outside the box following a poor clearance from a corner kick and slotted home a left-footed shot to give the hosts an early 1-0 lead.

Their Liga MX rivals on the night struck back in the 23rd minute, however, when Edwin Cardona scored from the center of the penalty area following a corner kick.

Undeterred, Fidel Caesar got on the ball right in front of the Monterrey goal minutes later from a corner kick and buried a right-footed shot to restore the hosts lead before half-time.

Bracing for an all-out attack from Monterrey in the second half, it was instead Unido that extended the lead, with Yoel Barcenas running nearly the length of the field and firing home on the counter-attack from a difficult angle to make it 3-1.

Monterrey had plenty of chances throughout the second half, but Unido goalkeeper Miguel Lloyd was up to the task for the remainder of the match until he conceded an injury-time goal to Cardona that was too little too late for the visitors.
