IFAB delay live video technology trial, triple punishment rule change agreed

ESPN FC's Shaka Hislop discusses why the idea of video technology is unpopular among members of FIFA.

Football's lawmakers have delayed live trials of video technology at matches for at least 12 months.

The Dutch FA had wanted to use its system in the Dutch Cup next season, but the International FA Board (IFAB) meeting in Belfast wants more information before giving the green light.

Football Association chairman Greg Dyke had been keen to push forward live trials but other delegates were more cautious, which means it will be at least another year before the go-ahead can be given.

Frank De Boer says he'll remain Ajax manager next season

Frank de Boer says he will not leave Ajax at the end of the season.

Ajax coach Frank de Boer is staying in Amsterdam next season.

De Boer, who has a contract through July 1, 2017, made clear he will continue to coach Ajax after the end of this season, the club announced on Friday.

"It's about giving clarity," De Boer said. "If clubs call on Marc [Overmars, Ajax's director of football] or my agent I won't open the door."

De Boer has led Ajax to the last four Eredivisie titles, but is unlikely to make it five in a row. His young team are in second place, 14 points...

PSV's Cocu has turned the tables on De Boer's Ajax

Phillip Cocu's PSV can all but clinch the Eredivisie with a victory this weekend over Frank de Boer's Ajax.
Phillip Cocu's PSV can all but clinch the Eredivisie with a victory this weekend over Frank de Boer's Ajax.

In the Netherlands, PSV Eindhoven seem to be sailing steadily towards their first league title in seven years. Just one more victory, against Ajax (who are currently in second place) on Sunday, should do it.

The stage for Sunday's meeting was set last year, when PSV's newly appointed manager Phillip Cocu not only saw Ajax win the Eredivisie but was also placed behind Feyenoord and FC Twente, who finished second and third, respectively. It was not a very good start for a manager who was touted...

KNVB hoping to persuade four home nation FAs about video technology

The ESPN FC crew debate on why the federations continue to neglect the use of technology in the modern football game.

Representatives of the Royal Dutch Football Association (KNVB) are lobbying the four home nation governing bodies this week as they attempt to accelerate a trial with video refereeing technology.

With scrutiny of referees at a new high recently in the Premier League, the KNVB's "Refereeing 2.0" blueprint provides a timely look at how television replays could be used to eradicate poor decisions in the future.

A total of 34 games in the Netherlands have already taken place with a video assistant testing...

Premier League clubs see 36% rise in shirt sponsorship income - report

The ESPN FC crew discuss the recent reports of the staggering sums of money involved in the newly negotiated Premier League TV rights deal, and debate where this money should be allocated to.
La Liga president Javier Tebas has warned his league that they risk falling behind the Premier League, if they fail to make changes to the way television rights are sold in Spain.

Premier League clubs' income from shirt sponsorship has risen by 36 percent since last season, according to research by Repucom.

The European Football Jersey Report 2014-2015, released on Tuesday, shows sponsorship income rose from 570 million euros in 2013-14 to 687 million euros (over 20 percent) for the 2014-15 season in the top six European leagues.
